T R Nagar Learning Centre
Another partnership with SJS and DWRU this centre started with a few children and has now grown to twenty five and many more interested learners that cannot be accommodated due to a lack of space. The community is also a Tamil migrant community, mainly families of domestic workers. The centre takes place in the house of one such community member whose son acts as the facilitator.
This is one of the centres that gives us hope that such an initiative might work with limited space. Though it has been operating out of a terrace the leadership shown by some of the older children has enabled the space to thrive. The facilitator at T R Nagar also has taken a lot of ownership and has received immense support from their family. We have seen various members from the facilitator’s family spend time with the children and the children have benefitted from their presence.
At T R Nagar the children have taken a keen interest in many indoor activities - particularly Rubick’s cubes, quizzes, drawing, music and dance. The biggest strength at this centre is how curious the children are. They are constantly interested in learning about new things, in particular about the different parts of the world and the science behind how things work.
