Kogilu Layout Learning Centre
One of our newer centres, opened a year ago, the Kogilu Layout centre is a collaboration with Sangama and takes place at their resource centre. The centre caters to ten to fifteen children from the extremely marginalised, migrant Fakir community.
The centre in Kogilu layout has become a bustling hub of fun learning for children and welcomes a lively group of 20 to 22 children, aged between 5 and 13 years. Afreen, the centre facilitator engages the children in a variety of activities that foster social interaction, creativity, and physical exercise.
A day in the centre begins with a meditation session, where the children meditate for at least three minutes, creating a calm and focused start to their time together. Following this, the children sit in a circle to welcome and greet each other, which helps in building a sense of community. They take turns introducing themselves, sharing their names, and discussing their day. The activities further extend to educational discussions where they talk about the different colours in their surroundings and identify the colours of various vegetables and fruits.
The children attending the centre are now regular participants at the local school having built a confidence to learn. They have also slowly begun identifying alphabets and numbers and much better regulate their emotions, and resolve conflicts. This centre has shown us how quickly transformation can occur with the right learning environments.
